Invisalign® continues to grow in popularity for adults who want to improve minor alignment issues. They are made from a clear, durable, plastic material. Once they are inserted in your mouth, it is hard for the casual observer to even notice them. You will need to switch to a new set of custom aligners every two weeks. Each set is adjusted to bring you one gradual step closer to your ideal alignment. Most people achieve their alignment goals with Invisalign® in about the same amount of time it would take braces to align your teeth.

Once your teeth have achieved their ideal alignment, there will still be a mild amount of tension lingering in the periodontal ligaments of your dental sockets. If it’s not mitigated in some way, this tension could cause your teeth to relapse out of their new positions.

To prevent this from happening, Dr. Skeet Burris, Travis Fiegle & Katie Pluckett will likely fit you for a clear, plastic retainer. It is made from a soft, clear, plastic material that is similar in design to Invisalign® aligner trays.

It’s important to use the retainer during the prescribed times. This will usually be required for the same amount of time it took Invisalign® to correct your smile.

Whenever you take it out, rinse the retainer to clear away any plaque and food particles. The clear, plastic retainer should be soaked each night in a mixture of half cold water and half antiseptic mouthwash.

If you notice some plaque buildup, you can gently brush the unit with a soft-bristled toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste. Please note that brushing with abrasive toothpaste could scratch the plastic material, making it more noticeable while the retainer is in your mouth.
