Braces are a strong and reliable appliance that can help you achieve the smile of your dreams. However, that’s only the case if you do everything you can to keep them in tip-top shape. If you have questions about oral hygiene with braces, caring for your appliance can be quite tough. So, our orthodontists encourage you to find the answers to your questions about oral hygiene with braces. To help you do so, [heshe] is happy to provide the answers to the following commonly asked questions:

Question No. 1: How often should I brush and floss my teeth?
Answer: It’s very important to brush after each time you eat. This can help you maintain clean and pristine teeth, gums and braces. You should also floss after each time you eat, but if you can’t, you should floss at least once a day.

Question No. 2: Why is oral hygiene important?
Answer: Oral hygiene helps you care for your braces, and when you care for your braces, your braces can care for you! You need a strong and functional appliance to achieve the smile you have always wanted. Oral hygiene also helps you prevent dental issues, like tooth decay and gum disease, which is very important during orthodontic treatment.

Question No. 3: Are there special tools to make oral hygiene easier?
Answer: Yes, there are many tools that can make cleaning your teeth, gums and appliance a bit more convenient. Some of those tools include water flossers, floss threaders and interdental brushes. Feel free to use them!

If you want to have a successful orthodontic journey, then there are things you need to do to keep your teeth, gums and appliance in tip-top shape. The more you care for your smile and braces, the better chance you have of achieving your perfect smile. So, our orthodontista would like to help you have a successful orthodontic journey by encouraging you to do the following things:

-Keep up on oral hygiene: This means you need to brush after every meal, floss at least once a day and rinse your mouth with mouthwash often. These things can help you maintain a clean and pristine smile; maintain top-notch teeth, gums and braces; as well as avoid embarrassing food-filled smile moments. Make sure to pack your toothbrush and toothpaste with you so you can brush throughout the day, and try to use convenient oral hygiene tools to make brushing and flossing easier, like interdental brushes and floss threaders.

-Attend your routine dental checkups: Your dental checkups are vital for a successful orthodontic treatment, especially because they help you prevent major dental issues, like cavities and gum disease. So, make sure to attend your checkups every six months.

-Follow your orthodontist’s instructions: This means you need to have the appropriate diet and braces care techniques. You should avoid foods that damage your braces and you should wear any rubber brands or other appliance accessories when recommended.

If you have any questions about how to have a successful orthodontic journey in [city], [state], please reach out to [practice_name] when you get the chance. Our orthodontic team is here to help you in any way we can, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

For years, people have considered orthodontics to be a rite of passage for older children and teenages. However, over the years, more and more adults have been opting to straighten their smile with traditional braces, or other orthodontic procedures.

If you are considering orthodontics, there are some issues about which you should think before moving ahead. Many adults have had resounding success straightening their teeth, so you should certainly discuss your options with your orthodontist, and you should talk about the issues that might be factors in your treatment.

As an adult, your jaw has stopped growing, and has also become stronger and harder. This may mean that it will take your braces longer to straighten your teeth than it might with a younger person. As an adult, you may have had gingivitis, infections or lost bone due to age, and that might not permit enough blood to flow between the roots of your teeth.

If you have an overbite, teeth may need to be removed in order for orthodontics to work. If you have had teeth extracted over the years, the spaces left behind may not be suitable places for your teeth as your orthodontics shift them into their new positions. There are also health issues unique to adults that may pose challenges for orthodontic work.

None of this means that you should not get braces or have another orthodontic procedure. What is does mean is that as an adult, you and your orthodontist need to work closely together to implement the best course of treatment for you.

If you are considering a procedure to straighten your smile, our orthodontist, Dr. [doctor_name] would love to meet with you for a consultation. If you live in the [city], [state] area and would like to make an appointment at [practice_name], call [phone] today.

Are you playing with the idea of trying braces to improve your alignment? If so, you have come to the right place! Our orthodontists, Drs. Burris, Fiegle, and Katie, are trained to assist you with any orthodontic treatment you need and are happy to talk to you about why it is important for your oral health.

Braces are a fantastic orthodontic treatment used to straighten the teeth and jaw in your smile. Even if your teeth are straight, but your upper and lower jaw do not meet properly, you could be in for some jaw pain and problems in the future, which will need to be addressed and cared for. That is why having aligned teeth and ideal jaw alignment is beneficial for your health throughout your life.

Did you know, braces can reduce your risk of gum disease, tooth decay and tooth loss over time? When your teeth are positioned incorrectly, they are more likely to store plaque and bacteria, making it hard to clean them with a toothbrush or dental floss, increasing the risk of cavities. There are several different kinds of braces. Some include traditional metal, ceramics, and clear aligners. Depending on your unique alignment, our orthodontists in [city], [state], will help you decide on which one is best for you.

If you are looking for answers about which orthodontic treatment is best for you, call [phone] to set up an appointment at [practice_name]. Our team is happy to go over options that can work for you and help you decide the right form of treatment.

The post The Importance of Braces and Oral Health first appeared on Winning Orthodontic Smiles.

Broken brackets are common, but it is very important that you manage the situation as much as possible, and you can do so by:

Checking the bracket and wire: If the bracket is still connected to the wire, leave it there. It’s best that you place orthodontic wax around it so it doesn’t slide around and move. If your bracket is no longer connected to the wire, it’s best to take the bracket out of your mouth and bring it into the office with you during your next appointment.

As you sit in the dental chair listening to your dentist tell you that you need braces, is your stomach filling up with nerves and anxiety? If so, relax! Orthodontics aren’t as bad as you think, and they can finally give you the smile you are looking for. A big reason why you’re nervous is because you have a bunch of questions that need some answers, and we’re happy to give them to you!

How long will I need to wear braces?
The orthodontic treatment plan varies with each patient, depending on the condition of their smile. If you are one who has severe misalignments, it might take a bit longer for you to transform your smile. If you only have small, simple misalignments, your orthodontic treatment will be over before you know it. Generally, treatment can last 9 months to 5 years, but we usually see treatment that lasts 18-24 months. If you would like to know how long it will take for your specific smile to change, ask your orthodontist during your next appointment.

Can I look cool with braces?
Yes, of course you can look cool in braces! With the advances in dental care today, you are able to personalize your braces to add spark and flare as you smile. As you attend your tightening appointments, you will be able to choose a rubber band color, or multiple, and use them to decorate your awesome smile. Many people also look cool with braces because many believe they are like “grillz,” which are oral jewels that add shine to the smile.

Do braces cause pain?
Braces don’t necessarily cause pain, but they do cause some soreness. As you tighten your braces, pressure is applied to your teeth, which causes some soreness. Although the soreness is inconvenient, it is a sign that your smile is transforming into the straight and beautiful smile you want. The brackets may also irritate your lips and cheeks at times, but you can solve this problem by covering your appliance with orthodontic wax.

Can I still play sports while I have braces?
Yes, you are more than welcome to continue playing sports while you have braces. However, we strongly recommend wearing a mouth guard while you do so. Wearing a guard will protect your smile and appliance from injuries.

Can I eat while I have braces?
We recommend staying away from hard-to-eat, sticky foods, like caramel, taffy, hard candies, popcorn, and gum. We also recommend cutting particular foods into small pieces before you eat them, like hamburgers, corn on the cob, apples, pears, and bagels.

Now we know that you probably have additional questions that weren’t included in this blog, so we encourage you to call our office today and ask a member of our friendly orthodontic team! We are here to help you in any way we can, and we look forward to talking with you.

The post The Answers to FAQ’s About Braces first appeared on Winning Orthodontic Smiles.
